About Dale
Dale began painting at age 70. He has studied under James Brandess of the Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency. He now enjoys spending his retirement days playing with paints—creating bold, colorful art that both reflects and inspires the best of life.
He has long been influenced and inspired by the beauty of nature—particularly the water. Seasons of his life have been spent with family on the shores of the Great Lakes and the Gulf of Mexico. The warmth of the sun, the colors of the sky, the lines of the water, the movement of the breeze, and the simple joy of light and laughter can be felt and seen in his varied works.
Dale uses a variety of mediums in his work, including oils and acrylics. Just as he relies on color to lead the way as he delves into each creative excursion, his techniques for application are varied and instinctive. He follows a stream of consciousness with his paint. Brushing. Scraping. Drizzling. Dripping. Squeegeeing.
The result is a loose, playful style—sometimes literal, sometimes abstract—that tells a story and carries the viewer to another place and time with each stroke. Dale’s lifestyle paintings evoke thoughts, emotion, moods, and feelings unique to each viewer.
